InfectedSlurs is a newly discovered malware that operates as a Mirai-based botnet. This malicious software is designed to exploit and damage computer systems and devices, often infiltrating the system through suspicious downloads, emails, or websites without the user's knowledge. Once inside, it can steal personal information, disrupt operations, or even hold your data hostage for ransom. The InfectedSlurs botnet has been found to exploit two zero-day vulnerabilities, posing a significant threat to cybersecurity. The malware has demonstrated its ability to exploit these zero-day vulnerabilities by launching attacks on unpatched systems. Zero-days are previously unknown software vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit before developers have had a chance to create and distribute a patch. The fact that InfectedSlurs exploits two such vulnerabilities makes it particularly dangerous, as it can bypass traditional security measures and gain control over targeted systems. In addition to exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities, InfectedSlurs has also been found to target QNAP VioStor NVRs (Network Video Recorders). These devices, used in video surveillance systems, have a specific vulnerability that the botnet is able to exploit, further broadening the potential impact of this malware. This strategy indicates an alarming trend of cybercriminals targeting not just traditional computing devices but also IoT (Internet of Things) devices, expanding the scope and potential damage of their attacks.
