Baseless

"Baseless" is a type of malware that has been implicated in several high-profile instances of cybercrime and misinformation. This malicious software infiltrates systems through suspicious downloads, emails, or websites, often without the user's knowledge. Once inside, it can steal personal information, disrupt operations, or hold data hostage for ransom. Various entities have faced accusations related to Baseless, but many of these claims have been dismissed as unfounded or lacking proof. For example, Reliable Networks was accused by Berry Dunn of being breached due to Baseless, but Reliable Networks maintained that the breach was the fault of a third party, not their own. The use of Baseless has also been tied to the spread of misinformation, particularly around political events. Fox anchors were found to have endorsed baseless stolen election claims, undermining their defense of neutral reporting. Similarly, former Trump national security adviser Flynn promoted baseless conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. These instances highlight the dual threat of Baseless: both as a tool of cybercrime and a vehicle for spreading unverified or false information. Despite the clear evidence of Baseless' harmful impact, many allegations related to its use have been met with strong denials. The Zbc board denied allegations made against them by their former boss as "baseless and unfounded". China's Foreign Ministry also responded to accusations of cyberattacks by stating its opposition to "baseless rumors and slanders", maintaining that China is consistent in its stance on cybersecurity and is more often a victim of hacking.
