Alloy, a threat actor in the cybersecurity realm, is associated with Alloy Studios and their Genius App. The app has been under scrutiny due to its ambiguous privacy policies and security measures. In an investigation into popular language learning model (LLM)-based chatbots, including ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Bing Chat, You.com, Google Bard, and Alloy's Genius App, we analyzed their privacy policies and tested user account security. This was done to verify claims about chatbots being trained on user-supplied prompts, whether all chat histories are saved, and the potential risks of using such tools in professional settings.
The Genius App by Alloy Studios does not necessitate sign-in, but users can only access their chat history on a device linked to the AppleID used for subscription. This raises concerns about data security and privacy, as it's unclear where and how the chat histories are stored, and who may have access to them. Furthermore, Alloy Studios’ Genius remains non-committal when asked if prompts are collected and used to train models, adding another layer of ambiguity to their data usage practices.
In addition to these concerns, Alloy has also been linked to the development of a Shape Memory Alloy spring-actuated continuum robotic neck inspired by pennate muscle architecture. While this technological innovation is noteworthy, it further underscores the complexity and potential risk associated with Alloy's activities. The lack of clarity in their data handling practices, combined with their advanced technical capabilities, presents a potential threat that warrants close monitoring and further investigation.
